Comtech VIPERSAT CDD-564L Satellite Network Quad Demodulator Router

Comtech Vipersat Networks’ CDD-564L is ideal for operators wishing to provide mesh connectivity between sites, while keeping network infrastructure costs down. The CDD-564 offers four separate L-band demodulators and an integrated router in a compact, cost-effective 1RU package. This eliminates the need for separate modems at the hub or remote sites when additional demod only applications are needed.

The CDD-564L integrated demodulator/router and communications controller operates at the hub or remote, offering flexibility and control of private satellite networks. The CDD-564L is designed to connect low- to high-speed data link connections between Ethernet WAN to LAN networks, providing a variety of communications services. The CDD-564L is capable of performing WAN to LAN IP routing functions, receiving up to four satellite SCPC for hub or remote site operation. The benefit of this architecture yields seamless bandwidth management-on-demand (BOD), while simplifying network capacity needs.

The Vipersat network solution integrates this advanced demodulator/router with our powerful network management tool, the Vipersat Management System (VMS). The VMS provides for traditional monitor and control of the CDM-570L modem and CDD-564L demodulator, but more than just an M&C package, the VMS allows these units to share bandwidth, and when needed, switch automatically to a dedicated SCPC channel. This effectively enables the network to better handle connection oriented applications and reduce network congestion jitter and latency. The VMS also allows for dynamic point-to-point mesh connections to be established between remotes.

When used in conjunction with the CDM-570L modem, transmit inbound from remotes can be switched: manually or automatically, application or load triggered, or scheduled, from shared STDMA (burst) mode, to a dedicated SCPC connection. Once the session is complete, the remote is automatically switched back to shared mode.

The result is an economical and flexible network with bandwidth shared and directed where it is needed for any mix of IP voice, video or data traffic.

The CDD-564L is ideal for applications such as Vipersat’s Single Hop On Demand (SHOD). With the CDD-564L, SHOD (meshed) circuits are easily and economically established between remotes. SHOD provides significant and dynamic connectivity between latency connections without suffering the high costs associated with multiple carriers and/or 1-to-1 multi-receiver links
